Mangaluru: The centenary celebration of St Agnes College, founded by Mother Mary Aloysia will be held in its premises on January 3.
St Agnes College principal Sr Dr M Jeswina A C told reporters here on Saturday, December 28 that the college is the first women’s college on the West Coast of India and the first under private management in the whole country. It has been empowering women through education since 1920. The centenary celebration will start at 9.30 am with the inauguration of Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary Memorial Block by Sr M Susheela, the superior general of the Apostolic Carmel congregation and blessing by Bishop of Mangaluru Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
There will be a public programme in the evening at the degree college open-air stage, at 5 pm, which will be presided over by Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and inaugurated by Sr M Susheela and Sr M Shamitha, provincial superior of the AC congregation). Meera Rao, director, Rambus Inc., USA, will be the chief guest. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya and Collegiate Education Commissioner Anirudh Shravan will be the special guests. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs U T Khader, D Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA J R Lobo, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha, Ivory Grand Real Estate Managing Director Michael D’Souza among other will also attend the programme, she informed.
