St. Aloysius School organises State Level Chess Tournament from Oct 10

Mangaluru: The St. Aloysius Higher Primary School, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instructions’ Office of the Block Education Officer, Mangaluru, North Range are jointly organising “State Level Chess-Tournament 2017-18” for primary and high school boys and girls from October 10 to 12 at the college premises.

Addressing a press meet on October 7, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Y Shivaramaiah said, “On October 10, Minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the 2-day tournament. Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo will preside over the inaugural at 10 am. Minister U T Khader will hoist the flag and Sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj will inaugurate the tournament for the day.”

MLAs Vasanth Bangera, Abhaychandra Jain, Shakuntala Shetty, S Angara, Mohiuddin Bava, Kota Shrinivas Poojary, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLC Ganesh Karnik, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesha, Rector of St. Aloysius College Rev. Fr. Dynesius Vaz will be present as the chief guests.

St. Aloysius Institutions has been successfully organising taluk level Chess tournaments for many years. This academic year, the college will be holding a state level chess tournament.

Nearly 900 students from 34 educational districts of the state including primary and high school girls and boys, judges, physical education officers from the taluks, districts and state, team managers will attend this chess tournament which is being held at an estimated cost of Rs 10 Lakh.

St. Aloysius Higher Primary School run by the Society of Jesus, has a legacy of 137 years of service to the cause of education. Along with education, the institution greatly supports sports activities. The institution has a vast play ground with experts in sports, who coach the students. To promote swimming among the students, the institution has constructed a swimming pool of international standards.
