Belthangady: Division Bench of the National Green Tribunal, South Zone, on Wednesday, November 18, extended the stay on work pertaining to the Yettinahole project.

The bench considered three petitions filed by Mangaluru City Corporation Deputy Mayor Purushotham Chitrapur, Kishore Kumar from Hassan and Yatiraju from Tumakuru on the issue. The trio was represented by advocates Shankar Bhat, Mohan and Isaac respectively.

The advocates for the petitioners noted that the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL) had failed to bring to the notice of the tribunal the objections raised by the forest conservator, and also that the KNNL had violated several forest laws.

In response, the advocates representing KNNL and the State government sought more time for submitting their arguments on the interim application. However, the bench did not entertain them, it is gathered.

The advocates for KNNL then placed an undertaking that they will not carry out any work in relation to the project till further orders of the tribunal.

The hearing of the case is scheduled for December 7.
