Mangaluru: The state government has announced that Sundar Malekudiya’s son Poornesh will be given an incentive of Rs 10,000 along with a scholarship and hostel facility for his three daughters.
Social Welfare Department said that if Poornesh Malekudiya is willing to continue his education, incentive will be given and also arrangements will be made for his admission in a government college.
Sundar Malekudiya was attacked by his land owner Gopalkrishna Gowda. After the attack, his son was forced to work as farm labourer to support his family. Poornesh said that he will not be able to continue his studies,” if I do so there is nobody to take care of my family. I can think about it if I am provided any government job, he told sources.
District Social Welfare Officer Santosh Kumar at a Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe grievance redressal meeting held on Thursday, said “The department will arrange admission for him at the Government First Grade College, offer a scholarship and bear his hostel expenses.”
“The department will also offer a scholarship to Sundar Malekudiya’s daughters Poornima, who is in I PU; Poojita, who is in Class 8, and Poojashree, who is in Class 6. We have taken their bank details. The scholarship will be paid soon,” he said.
Mr. Kumar said they will also provide an assistance of Rs. 25,000 to repair Mr. Malekudiya’s house. The department has paid Rs. 80,000 as interim compensation and they have said that will bear the entire cost of treatment.
