Mangaluru: Pradeep (40) from Sullia, a fourth accused in Sundar Malekudiya assault case has been detained by the Belthangady police here on Saturday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar said, Pradeep had been charged with helping his uncle Gopalakrishna Gowda to abscond. A team of policemen had gone to a house in Bengaluru and brought Pradeep to the Beltangady police station. He was booked under Section 212 (harbouring an offender) of the Indian Penal Code. Subsequently, he was released on bail, he said.
Pradeep was the son-in-law of Gopalakrishna Gowda’s elder sister, Damayanti, an accused in the case, who was yet to be arrested.
The police have so far arrested Gopalakrishna Gowda, his wife Pushpalata and Damayanti’s car driver Vasanta Gowda.
Sundar Malekudiya, resident of Kataje village in Belthangady taluk, was allegedly attacked by Gopala Gowda with a grass-cutting machine on July 26. The incident occurred when Sundara tried to prevent Gowda from clearing the jungle in the former’s land in Kataje village. Gowda attacked him with a weeding machine that left Sundar’s arm almost severed, while four fingers were chopped off.
