Manipal: The TAPMI Toastmasters Club has planned to organize the third edition of its signature programme, the ‘TAPMI Model United Nations’ (TMUN), on January 24, 25, 2020. TMUN provides students of undergraduate and postgraduate levels a common platform to join and act as the delegates of countries across the world.
Delegates (participants) are assigned individual countries and councils, along with the theme for the conference. They conduct research on their country and formulate position papers with policy proposals that they will debate with their fellow delegates at the conference. Towards the end of the conference, they come forward to draft a resolution with the support of a majority of votes.
The best delegates are recognized with awards.
The heart of TMUN is the formulation of resolutions that involves diplomacy and leadership. The aim of the exercise is to encourage out of the box thinking that focusses on solutions rather than the problems alone. It is expected that young minds will come up with solutions that were never thought of before.
It is a fun, yet formal event that breeds networking among students from diverse backgrounds and from different colleges and educational streams. Diplomacy is an art they say, but indeed there is a science in the background that will keep the participants on their toes, thoughtful and careful and as the end looms near, the pressure builds with sleepless, fun-filled nights the norm!
The first two editions of TMUN were grand successes, and the organizers hope to make the third edition better than the last. Always competing with themselves, that is the TAPMI Toastmasters club! Stay tuned for more updates!
