Teenager’s holiday turns tragic; drowns in River Netravati

Bantwal: A first year commerce student from Adarsh College was washed away by the gushing water in River Netravati at BC Road on Monday.

Akbar (17), son of Hameed from GT Road in Nandavara is the deceased.

The victim had been to river with his brother and friends as they had a holiday on Monday, on the occasion of Mahalaya Amavasye. The incident took place at around 4 pm when all of them decided to take a bath in the river. Akbar was washed away by the gushing water.

Others reportedly tried to rescue him but in vain. Local expert swimmers have been on a search for his body.

People from Panemangaluru, Nandavara, BC Road, Talapady, Bantwal came to the spot in large numbers after the news spread. Bantwal fire service and police are also at the spot to help to find the body.

Muncipal members Mohammad Shareef and Monish Ali visited the spot.

Akbar was a talented student and eighth among 9 children.
