Temporary beef stalls near railway tracks set ablaze

Mangaluru: Almost a week after the passing of the stringent anti-cow slaughter law, two beef stalls in Thokottu were set on fire by unknown miscreants on January 9.

Earlier, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad had termed these stalls as illegal. The activists have alleged that the stalls were functioning illegally and had requested Municipal Council president and Ullal Police station to vacate them from the premises.

The sheds that were set on fire have been identified as belonging to M C Bava, MC Khader, and Hanif. Due to the renovation work of Thokkutu inner market, traders were asked to shift their stalls elsewhere temporarily.

While most traders shifted their business to a private land at Thokottu inner market, two beef stalls relocated near the railway tracks. Though no one lodged a written complaint, several people made complains over the phone regarding this.

Stall owners were also warned by the Municipal Council but were unable to do anything the stall was set-up in a land belonging to the Railways.

According to reports, the beef stall’s license has not been cancelled but has been suspended.

Block Congress president Santhosh Shetty Asaigoli has threatened to hold protests if the suspect’s arent arrested in the next three days.

The spot was visited by Police commissioner Shashikumar, DCP Hariram, and Ullal police inspector Sandeep M G. A case has been registered regarding this and investigation is underway.
