Kasargod: A certain degree of tension prevailed in Kasargod region with stone pelting incidents taking place from Saturday night and with four individuals being injured in the chaos.
With December 6 being the 23rd anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid, the region remained calm till Saturday evening, but by fall of dusk some buses were pelted with stone in Uppala and Manjeshwar area.
Though some buses operated on Sunday morning, the services were soon called off anticipating trouble.
However, transport system between Mangaluru and Kasargod remained unaffected.
Every year, on this day stray incidents of stone pelting and tyre burning have been reported. Hence, December 6 has been an undeclared bundh in the region. However, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, taking precautionary measures had issued press release informing that public gatherings and speeches on December 6 was prohibited.
Traffic came to a standstill in many parts due to blocking of roads using bricks and tyres and the police were seen toiling hard to clear the traffic.
