Mangaluru: “There is no shortage of funds for the developmental works in the state and the government will not undertake any project which negatively impacts on nature,” said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday, October 14.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating ‘Brand Mangaluru’ and Grama Vasthvya programme for journalists organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association (DKDWJA) in association with the Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust at TMA Pai Auditorium. He said, “There are rumours that if the government waives off loans, there would be shortage of funds in the exchequer. However, there is no any dearth of funds in the state government. Over Rs 10,000 Crore is still pending in the current account of the government, which is meant for the developmental works and it is properly utilised in the next coming days”, he said.

Lauding the concept of `Brand Mangaluru` Kumaraswamy said, “Brand Mangaluru is a good programme and the state government will extend its full support to this. Mangaluru should not be highlighted for the wrong reasons. Everyone should unite and cooperate for the development of Mangaluru”, he said.

‘Toppling the government is not possible’
Kumaraswamy also stressed that the attempts to topple the government would not succeed. “The coalition government is stable and the efforts of the opposition party will not yield a positive result. Some media sections are also striving hard to topple the government. If there is truth, the media can highlight. But why media is simply publishing fake news on the government?”, he questioned. He also assured of providing housing sites for all the journalists and also promised of fulfilling the demands like pension, job security, health cards for journalists.

Prior to the programme, DKDWJA President Srinivas Nayak Indaje delivered an introductory speech and said, ” Mangaluru has been developing in all sectors like education, banking among others. However, due to some wrong reasons, Mangaluru has been in the news in the recent years. In order to highlight the potential of Mangaluru and to create good opinion in and around the country, the Brand Mangaluru concept has emerged”, he said and sought the cooperation of all for the success of the programme.

Meanwhile, in order to extend help to the flood victims of Kodagu, the Journalists Association and Press Club handed over a cheque of Rs 51,000 to chief minister. Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy was felicitated on the occasion. After the programme, a national level Hindustani classical youth music concert was held.

Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader, MLCs Ivan D’Souza, S L Bhoje Gowda, B M Farooq, Mayor Bhaskar K, former minister B Ramanatha Rai, former MLAs Moideen Bava, Shakunthala Shetty, N Yogish Bhat among others were present.
