Mangaluru: In the wake of the rightwing outfits planning a massive protest on November 13 against the state government for Tipu Jayanti celebration, the Dakshina Kannada unit of BJP has decided to postpone the Jana Sankalpa Yatra.

As per the revised schedule, the Yatra, which was supposed to start on November 13, will commence from November 14 and culminate on November 22.

Speaking to the media at the BJP office on Wednesday, November 11, DK district MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was directly responsible for all the untoward incidents that occurred due to Tipu Jayanti. “The decision to celebrate Tipu Jayanti was taken without even discussing it in the Vidhana Sabha.

The government should have adhered to the feelings of Hindus and the Christians in the district and also the Kodavas. There was no need for Tipu Jayanti. Moreover, reliable sources mention that Tipu was born on November 20. Celebration of the Jayanti on Diwali is nothing but an attempt to create differences between the Hindus and the Muslims.”

Tipu was a fanatic: Kateel

“The Pompei Church at Kirem practices a unique tradition of letting the Guthu family in the vicinity to carry out Hindu rituals in the Church premises during their parish feast. The reason is that the Guthu family has reportedly guarded the Church for nearly three days when Tipu tried to attack and demolish it. How can such a ruler not be a religious extremist?” he questioned.

Kuttappa died due to stone pelting

Kateel alleged that the police had any forum to take out rally on November 10 in Kodagu foreseeing trouble. However, a group plying from Kerala was allowed to take out a rally, he said adding that the same group started pelting stones, which intensified the tension.

“The CM’s statement that Kuttappa died after slipping is highly objectionable. It doesn’t being repute to his stature. I had been to the spot last evening. The area is such that no person can suffer injuries leading to death. Kuttappa died as a stone pelted by the Kerala gang hit him on the head which resulted in his death. The body was not even sent for autopsy. Probe should be initiated into his death,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Jana Sankalpa Yatra will begin from Kukke Subrahmanya on November 13 and culminate at Kateel on November 22. The Yatra intends to draw the attention of people towards the ‘failures’ of the Congress government in the State and to oppose the Yettinahole diversion project.

Kateel further said that he will soon take a panel comprising all like-minded people opposing Yettinahole project to the Union Ministry in order to request the government to quash the project.
