Mangaluru: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will pay around Rs 16 lakhs per acre whose land is likely to be submerged after water up to 5 mtr is stored in the new vented dam.
As many as 18 farmers’ private lands of 18.12 acre will get submerged if the district administration plans to store water up to 5 mtr. The total area likely to be submerged will be around 30 acres with the rest 12 acres in government control.
Disclosing the details at the Karnataka Development Program (KDP) review meeting, MCC commissioner, Mohammad Nazir said, MCC will pay Rs 3 crores compensation to the affected farmers as the survey of the area likely to be submerged is complete.
The civic agency will draw the amount from the government which will later be reimbursed, under an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan scheme.
It may be recalled, farmers were up in arms against the district administration for not taking them into confidence during the survey and on issues related to compensation.
