Mangaluru: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will soon approach the state government to merge the toll gates at Surathkal and Hejamady on National highway 66, Minister for Public Works Dr. H C Mahadevappa said.
The minister confirmed about the merger in a written reply to a question from B A Mohiuddin Bawa, legislator from Mangaluru North constituency during the recently concluded winter session in Belagavi.
The toll plaza in Surathkal and Hejamady are temporary, said minister and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) office based in Mangaluru has forwarded a proposal to the Chief General Manager , NHAI based in Bengaluru. The same will be sent to state government for approval, minister said assuring of merger soon.
He said that there was a proposal earlier to cancel the Surathkal toll gate after constructing a permanent one in Hejamady.
Legislator Bawa had questioned the necessity of having 2 toll plazas within a span of 5 kms on the busy national highway.
