Town Panchayat polls in Sullia, Cong list on May 12

Sullia: The Congress party candidates’ list for Sullia Town Panchayat elections will be published on May 12, according to sources.

Out of the 20 wards in Sullia, candidates were finalised in 12 wards. These candidates were told to keep the requisite documents to file their nominations, ready. In the remaining wards, the candidates will be finalised on May 12, in the presence of district leaders of the party.

In most of the wards, the selection of candidates was easy except for the five wards which have become a puzzle for the leaders as there are too many aspirants.

In Keremoole, Boodu, Navooru, Borugudde and Biramangala wards, the aspirants’ lists were quite long making the job very tough for the leaders.

On May 12, the list of candidates will be finalised in the presence of former district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai and other leaders of the party from the district.

The Election Commission has opened its office in the Sullia Town Panchayat office. The returning officers have also been appointed.

Devaraj Muthlaje, Youth Empowerment and Sports Officer are appointed as the returning officer for the wards 1 to 10. U D Shekar, Ivarnadu Grama Panchayath Development Officer, will be the assistant returning officer. Sathish Koyingaje, Physical Education Director, Government First Grade College will be the sector officer.

Forwards 11 to 20, N Manjunath, Sullia Regional Forest Officer is the returning officer; Ravichandra, Kollamogra Gram Panchayat Development Officer is the assistant returning officer and Mahabala Kula, the sector officer. R Madhukumar, Chief Executive Officer of Taluk Panchayat will be performing the duties of a Code of Conduct Officer.

The filing of nomination for the town Panchayat elections has begun today, i.e. on Thursday, May 9. However, no nomination was filed today. Many people were seen taking applications to file the nominations.
