Two-day AYUSH festival to be held on Dec 19-20

Mangaluru: A two-day AYUSH festival will be held at Dr. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama from December 19, Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader informed.

Addressing the media after launching the festival logo at Circuit House here on Sunday, November 22, he said that the festival was organized in view to create awareness on AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy) among the public. He said that conferences, food festival, exhibition of herbs and a mass yoga session will be held during the festival.

President of AYUSH foundation Dr Ashajyothi Rai informed that the AYUSH festival is a joint effort from Dakshina Kannada District Administration, district AYUSH Department, AYUSH Institutes of undivided Dakshina Kannada, AYUSH practitioners and companies from the twin districts. AYUSH products such as medicines, cosmetics, equipment and books will be out for sale at discounted rates. The festival is expected to draw about 50,000 people, she said.

It may be recalled that Minister Khader was recently grilled in the Assembly from leaders of all parties over non appointment of doctors to government hospitals. When asked, Khader said that the recruitment process is underway and that the Department has received huge number of applications for vacant 381 MBBS 83 dental doctors’ positions. He assured that the issue will be resolved soon.
