Mangaluru: The 13th annual conference of the IARC called ‘RESCARE – 19’ was inaugurated at the A J Auditorium, on Friday, November 15. The two-day conference is being jointly organised by the Department of Respiratory Care at the A J Institute of Allied Health Sciences and the Indian Association of Respiratory Care (IARC).
The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was Laxmi Memorial Educational Trust president Dr A J Shetty and IARC president Dr J V Peter presided over the programme.
Addressing the gathering, AJIMS Dean Dr Ashok Hegde said, “The Department of Respiratory Care is a trendsetter in the field of respiratory care in this part of the world. I can certainly say it is the best centre for every ailment submitted to a respiratory system. Respiratory therapists work with patients of all ages from premature babies with underdeveloped lungs to senior citizens with breathing problems. I am sure today’s deliberation will throw light on the various aspects of respiratory care, ultimately benefiting mankind.”
In his presidential address, Dr J V Peter spoke about how the need for respiratory therapists arose, the current scenario in the field and the way in which it was headed. “It is so great to see such enthusiasm at this conference,” he added.
The chief guest, Dr A J Shetty expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the conference. “In our institution, we have a very good department for respiratory care where a good number of patients get treated. This kind of conference gives an opportunity to students to learn and serve our country. I request the audience to make use of this and urge the management to keep organising such programmes,” he said.
The conference witnessed the registration of nearly 360 delegates which is said to be the highest number of registrations in the history of IARC conferences.
AJHRC Medical Director Dr Prashanth Marla welcomed the gathering after the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
LMET vice-president Prashanth Shetty, AJIMS principal Dr Sushith, Indian Journal of Respiratory Care editor Dr Anitha Shenoy and others were present.
