Two day-seminar on Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation in Industry

Mangaluru: St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru and National Association for Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation in Industry (NAARRI), Mumbai, in collaboration with the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT) has organised a two-day national seminar on Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation in Industry, Healthcare and Agriculture.

The seminar will be held for two days, on Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11. The seminar is organised by the Department of Physics and is sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS) and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.

Addressing a press meet here on September, 7, Principal of St. Aloysius College Dr. Praveen Martis SJ said, “State Minister for Urban Development U T Khader will inaugurate a two-day national seminar at Fr. L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block on Monday, September 10.”

“S A Bharadwaj, Chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Govt. of India, Dr. Pratibha Jolly, Principal of Miranda House, University College for Women, Delhi will be the guest of honour,” he added.

Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz S J, Rector, St. Aloysius Institutions will preside over the programme.

The seminar is open to medical students, medical doctors, research scholars, postgraduate students in Physics, Chemistry and Biotechnology and students of other science streams.

“On the occasion of National Seminar, a public lecture has been organised on September 11 at 5 PM in the Eric Mathias Hall. The topic of the seminar will be ‘Public Perceptions about Atomic Energy-Myths V/s Realities.’ The lecture will be delivered by S K Malhotra, Raja Ramanna Fellow and former head of Public Awareness Division, DAE, Govt of India, ” Praveen Martis said.

The key speakers of the seminar are Dr. S F D’Souza, former associate director of Biotech Group, BARC, G Ganesh, Chief Executive Officer of BRIT, Mumbai, Dr. J P Agarwal, Head of Radiation Therapy, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. S K Srivastava, Radiation Oncology, Apollo Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Sharmila Banerjee, Radiation Medicine Centre, Mumbai, Dr. Lalit Vashney, Head of Radiation Technology Division, BARC, Mumbai, Dr. Gautam, Food Technology Division, BARC, S K Malhotra, Raja Ramanna Fellow, DAE, Dr. A K Kohli, Raja Ramanna Fellow, DAE, Dr. Ashutosh Dash, Head, R Ph Division, BARC, Dr. Dash Sharma, Head, Radiation Safety Division, AERB.
