Kasargod: Uduma Textile Mill, which closed operations will be re-started in December this year, said Minister for Industries E P Jayarajan.
Addressing a meeting held at the abandoned unit, in presence of Uduma MLA K Kunhiraman, the Minister said that some financial and legal aspects acted as impediments for the unit to carry on operations. There is a need for Rs 1536.71 lakh to re-open the unit. A sum of Rs 1 cr has been earmarked in the state budget for this purpose. All efforts will be made to get the money required under Kasargod package and from state government. The unit will be upgraded as industrial unit on re-opening, said the Minister.
Meanwhile, Employees Union representatives promised the minister that the case filed by 17 employee with regard to recruit will be withdrawn if recruitment is done in a transparent manner based on rank list.

The Uduma Textiles Mill went defunct after a much-publicised opening in 2011.
Minister shown black flag
State Industries minister E P Jayarajan who was caught in eye of storm was shown black flags by the members of Youth Congress and Yuva Morcha during his visit to Uduma.
When the minister’s vehicle reached the town, over 15 activists showed black flags. Police who were present arrested the protesters. Since the police had received information regarding the possible protest against the minister, security was beefed up.
The Minister courted controversy after appointing his close relatives in plum positions in PSUs coming under his department. This incident has now mounted pressure on chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to sack Jayarajan. The opposition has been demanding the minister’s resignation.
