Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader has opposed the central government’s move of privatising the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) and opined that before going ahead with the decision, it needs to take the opinion of the public.
Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on Friday, November 30, Khader said, “If the central government goes ahead with its decision of privatisation, the MIA employees would lose their jobs. They are apprehensive about their jobs from the moment this news broke out in the media. Taxi drivers and others who indirectly depended on MIA now feel that they would face bad days in future. The decision of privatising the airport is a vague decision”, Khader said and demanded a review on the decision.
Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan `Swadeshi Mantra` Khader said, “Central government is simply floating the slogan of Swadeshi Mantra, but it actually holds `Videshi Tantra.` The government is interested in entertaining corporate companies. Privatisation of airport also a hidden agenda of favouring the corporate companies”, he alleged.
