Veerendra Heggade selected for prestigious ‘Inclusive Finance India Award’

Dharmasthala: Head of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Padmashri Dr. D Veerendra Heggade has been selected for the prestigious Inclusive Finance India Award 2017 conferred by ACCESS India.

Heggade has been conferred with the award for his contribution to economic reforms through rural development programme.

ACCESS India Executive Director Radhika Agasthe said, “Heggade has been selected for his contribution to India’s micro-finance. He has been selected for the Judges’ Special award. The award ceremony will be held on December 11 and 12 at Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi during the Inclusive Finance India Summit.

The Inclusive Finance India Awards (earlier Microfinance India Awards) were instituted by ACCESS in 2009 with support from HSBC, India to honour individuals and institutions that have shown exemplary commitment towards promoting the cause of providing financial services and have made significant contribution to the growth of the sector. The Inclusive Finance India Awards is an endeavour in recognising and honouring individuals and institutions that have indefatigably worked towards promoting sector goals of scaling financial services and in supporting inclusive growth. The inspiration behind Microfinance India Awards was also to institute a mechanism to recognise the larger contribution of several thought leaders, practitioners, policy makers, promoters and researchers to this sector. The idea of the Inclusive Finance India Awards is now well recognised and respected within the sector. ACCESS proposes to continue with the initiative.

Inclusive Finance India Awards 2017, which will be presented on the first day of the Inclusive Finance India Summit, is scheduled for December 11 and 12, 2017 at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi. The 2017 Awards will be presented for the following categories:

Microfinance Organisation (MFO) of the Year (Large)
Microfinance Organisation (MFO) of the Year (Small and Medium)
Self Help Group Promoting Institution (SHPI) of the Year(Large)
Self Help Group Promoting Institution (SHPI) of the Year(Small)
Enabling Institution of the Year
Lifetime Contribution to the Sector by an Individual
RRBs lending to SHGs

Prominent and committed sector leaders viz. Nandan Nilekani, Ela Bhatt, Vijay Mahajan, Aloysius Fernandez, Y C Nanda, N K Maini and some of the best examples of microfinance organisations, such as, Ujjivan, Bandhan, SKDRDP, FWWB India and multilateral organisations like DFID are past recipients of these awards.

A cash prize of INR 100,000 and a trophy will be presented to the winner to commemorate the achievement of the selected institution/individual. Scholarships will be provided by DFID India to attend an international training programme for the winners under the category of level Small and-Medium MFO of the year, Large Self Help Group Promoting Institution of the Year and Small-Medium Self Help Group Promoting Institution of the Year. The Winner in the SHPI Categories will also be felicitated with the NABARD’s Grant Assistance Profiles of the shortlisted institutions/individuals will be widely distributed as part of the compendium during the Inclusive Finance India Summit proceedings.
