Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu is chief guest at NITK’s diamond jubilee convocation

Mangaluru: Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, will be the Chief Guest, deliver the Convocation Address and present Gold Medals/Awards to the graduates at the Diamond Jubilee Year Convocation (17th Annual Convocation) of the NITK, the erstwhile Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), Surathkal, on Saturday, November 02, 2019 at 11.00 AM in the New Sports Complex of the College. Shri Vajubhai Vala, Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka will be the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Sri Kota Shrinivas Poojari, District in-charge Minister will grace the occasion. It is a significant milestone in the 60-year glorious journey of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal. 

During the second session of the convocation starting at 4.30 PM, degrees will be awarded to all students of B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Tech (Research), MCA, MBA, MSc. and Ph.D. programs who graduated during the academic year 2018-19.

  • PG Gold Medallists: 29
  • B.Tech Gold Medallists: 9
  • Number of Ph.D. graduates: 116
  • Total No of Post-Graduates: 634
  • Total No of B.Tech Graduates: 795

This was informed to the media at a press conference held here yesterday. Prof. K Umamaheshwara Rao (Director), Prof. K Balaveera Reddy (Chairperson, NITK Board of Governors), Shri K Ravindranath (Registrar), Prof.A Nithyananda Shetty (Convener/Dean Academic) and Dr. Arun M Isloor (Professor & Head, Dept of Chemistry) were present at the press conference.

NITK, the erstwhile Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), established on 6th August 1960, is an institute of National Importance governed by the Board of Governors under the NITSER Act 2007 and Statutes laid down by the Government of India. NITK is committed to creating world-class human resources of high quality and cost-effective technologies to meet all-round needs of the country in the areas of Engineering, Social Sciences, and Management. NITK has grown from a College with a modest student strength of around 250 in 1960 to an Institute with 6000 students from all over India and abroad.

  • 10.53 AM: Donning of robes by the dignitaries and group photograph and academic procession
  • 11.00 AM: Procession enters the venue 
  • 11.05 AM: National Anthem 
  • 11.06 AM: Institute Anthem 
  • 11.09 AM: Convocation programme commences 
  • 12.29 PM: National Anthem 
  • 12.30 PM: Departure of Hon’ble Vice President of India 
  • Retreat of the academic procession
  • Convocation Lunch
  • 4.30 PM: Convocation continues
