Mangaluru: `White Doves` will be organising three-day mobile street plays at different places from November 29 onwards a part of Christmas celebrations.
White Doves Founder President Corrine Rasquinha told mediapersons here on Wednesday, November 27 that the street shows will depict the birth and life of Jesus Christ in an entertaining song and dance format. “The show, apart from the nativity scenes and dances also features a Kannada play on the life of St Mark titled ‘Nanu Ninnavane’ written by Bannu Fernandes. As many as 125 artists from different backgrounds had been trained to enact different roles. There will be 10 stages totalling 240 feet,” she said.
“This is the 25th year of the performances and White Doves have performed over 300 such shows in the past years at Belthangady, Bantwal, Kundapur, Trasi, Udupi, Sastan, Brahmavar, Kinnigoli, Kalyanpur, Manipal, Moodbidri, Shirva, Kadaba, Suratkal, Farangipet, and various other places have drawn huge crowds. This year will be the last of these shows and will be staged on November 29, Friday at Gandhi Maidan in Karkala, Saturday, November 30 at Modankap Infant Jesus Church grounds and the grand final show at Nehru Maidan Mangaluru on December 1,” Rasquinha added.
Speaking about the social service of White Doves over the years Rasquinha said ‘White Doves also celebrates its 25 years of service to the downtrodden and have rehabilitated over 600 destitute picked up from the streets of Mangaluru and have reunited 389 destitute with their families after treatment all over India including Nepal and Bangladesh,”.
White Doves Trustee Vitus Rasquinha, manager Jerald Fernandes and Bannu Fernandes were present.
