Mangaluru: Drug menace is on the rise in the city and from an outset, it looks like the police are not getting enough co-operation from various educational institutions.
Addressing reporters in the city on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Dr. P S Harsha said, “We have been appealing to the educational institutions to co-operate with the police and conduct checking in their hostels, educational institutions. If we fail to get enough co-operation from the educational institutions, we will approach the court in order to launch search in hostels and educational institutions.”
He further said that teams have been formed in recent days to trace the drug peddlers as there is a rise in drug menace in the city. Meanwhile, he also urged the youngsters to not fall prey in a bid to make some easy, fast money. ” Ignorance of the law is not an excuse and we won’t spare anyone,” he stressed.
The Compol spoke about the situation in the city after he revealed that the Mangaluru police arrested four persons in connection to ganja peddling and seized 10 kgs of ganja, two motorcycles, three mobile phones and a car from their possession on Wednesday, November 6.
Talking about the arrests, he said that Abubakkar Samad (24), Mohammed Ashraf (30), Mohammed Afrid (22) and Mohammed Arshad (18), all residents of Manjeshwar in Kasargod district are the accused. ACP South Subdivision Police and Anti Rowdy Squad jointly carried out this operation and succeeded in nabbing the accused. “As we confiscated a car bearing Maharashtra registration number, we are trying to contact Mumbai police to ascertain if the peddlers have links in Maharastra,” he informed.
