Mangaluru: The Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express between Mangaluru Junction and Karwar might be cancelled as Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) and South Western Railway (SWR) have reportedly sent proposals to the Railway Board to ply the train between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru Junction only.
KRCL and SWR sent the proposal to the Railway Board as the Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express has only 20 per cent occupancy.
The train leaves Yeshwantpur at 7 am and reaches Mangaluru Junction (390 km) at 5.40 pm. It travels at an average speed of 40 kmph. It takes 2.10 hours to cross the 55 km ghat stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road at 26 kmph and 2.25 hours to cover 44 km on plain land between Kabaka Puttur and Mangaluru Junction at 19 kmph.
Sources in the South Western Railway said that at present, the train would run as tri-weekly only after the partial cancellation.
