Mangaluru: Keeping in mind the possible tension that can grip the already communally sensitive Mangaluru city, the police department has decided to ban the entry of Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik and Vishwa Hindu Parishat President Dr Praveen Togadia. The founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, Dr Naik is a well-known Islamic orator and was scheduled to deliver the keynote address at a three-day convention organised by the South Karnataka Salafi Movement (SKSM) in the city on January 3.
Meanwhile, Togadia was to attend a convention to discuss various issues pertaining to cow slaughter, love jihad and attacks on Hindu activists in the city during first week of January as well.
Several Hindu organisations have been opposing the visit of Dr Naik.
It is said that, a prohibitory order was passed under Section 144 of CrPC to maintain law and order in Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada district, which was recovering from communal tension sparked by series of killing in the region.
