Udupi: “There is no place for untouchabilty in Hindustan,” said International working President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Praveen Togadia, urging the people to eradicate the wicked practice altogether from our society and thereby ushering in a new era of social equality and brotherhood.

Addressing the Sants and Sadhus on the second day of the Dharma Sansad at the Royal Gardens here on Saturday, Togadia said that untouchability is a social evil associated with the traditional Hindu Samaj. Further, he stated that all Hindus are brothers and that the caste system was created by the British and Muslims during their regime in India.

“The dream of an untouchability free India will become a reality only when people change their mindset and respect the dignity of each individual irrespective of their race, caste, gender and any other differences,” said Togadia urging the VHP Hindu Parivar Mithr Yojana to strive towards the eradication of the practice, that has reduced to a great extent from the society.

Stating that each individual is divine irrespective of his caste, Togadia said that the people from the lower castes should be allowed to offer prayers in temples and also be allowed to dine with the others. “An understanding needs to be developed to establish a strong bond in the community and achieve the goal of unity among Hindus,” he said adding that they should respect women folk just like they rever the Goddess Durga and seek her blessings.

A humane approach will ensure that people will not be deprived of the access to drinking water, education and food because of their caste. “Education will aid in the employment of the youth which in turn will help overcome poverty and starvation issues faced by many in our country,” said Togadia adding that there should be a common crematorium for all Hindus.
