Udupi: Students from Bhandarkars college and BB Hegde College, along with the ABVP staged a protest against the murder of the 17 year old girl Akshatha Devadiga, and submitted a memorandum to Tahshildar Gayathri Nayak, demanding the arrest of the culprits immediately. A bandh was observed in Byndoor town for about an hour.
Akshatha Devadiga, a 17-year-old girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances n the forests at Henberu village in Kundapur taluk. The post-mortem was conducted at the KMC yesterday then the body was taken to Byndoor and was kept for the public to pay their last respects at around 3.30 p.m. and was cremated immediately thereafter.
Students wanted the culprit to be arrested at the earliest. They urged the police that this should not be another case like Rathna Kothari, where, till date no one is arrested in that case . ABVP leader Jayaprakash while addressing the protesters said in 2014 the similar incident happened but no culprit has been arrested. He was refering to Rathna Kothari murder case.
Meanwhile Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake visted the victm’s house on Thursday and assured justice. The investigation will be done and within 3 days truth will be brought out, he said. Minister also visited Manipal KMC hospital and sought information from the doctors.
IGP Amritpal also visited the victim’s house and held discussions with police officers for further investigation of the case. Udupi SP Annamalai was also present.
Two teams formed for investigation
Taking the suspicious death case of the minor college girl seriously, Udupi SP Annamalai himself has taken on the case and said that two separate teams have been formed to to crack the case, there is absolutely no need to panic. “The post-mortem report is expected on Friday”, he said.
