Udupi: Kota Police Sub-Inspector Santhosh has been suspended following accusation of atrocities on Koraga community during a Mehendi programme. The order was passed by IGP of Western Range Devajyoti Ray. The five other policemen who used lathis mercilessly on the community have also faced transfers.
It may be recalled here the incident occurred during the Mehendi programme held at Barikere of Kotathattu Village in the District on the night of Monday December 27 for allegedly playing loud music, thus disturbing the neighbours. Subsequently, the incident was condemned by people from various quarters including Koraga community leaders.
Udupi Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhan too had ordered investigation into the incident on Tuesday December 28 based on which IGP took action. Endowement Department minister Kota Srinivas Poojari, who hails from the villege took the issue seriously and insisted on probe. He also consoled the affected by visiting them.
