Couple nabbed for wedding hall theft incidents; valuables worth Rs 12 lac seized

Udupi: A couple that lived on booty stolen from wedding halls, finally fell into police net. The arrested are R Pradeep (38) and his wife Revathi (28), hailing from Shivamogga.

Gold and silver ornaments, cash, a bike and ATM cards, of total value of Rs 12 lakh, also have been seized from them by the Hiriyadka police.

The Udupi district police was left in a state of tizzy as the number of thefts in wedding halls increased. The hunt brought them to arrest the couple, who revealed that dressing presentably, they used to attend the wedding of strangers and fled with whatever gold they could lay their hands on.

On Dec 13, the couple is said to have stolen Rs 45,000 in cash and ATM various other cards from the dressing room of the Devadiga auditorium in Hiriyadka. They later withdrew Rs 1,400 from a bank account, by making use of one of the cards.

In another incident they stole away a vanity bag containing gold worth Rs 48,000 and some other valuables. While a wallet was stolen from a wedding hall at Vontibettu recently, the police linked the dots and found that it was the same couple that was behind all the wedding hall theft cases.
