Udupi: The first floating bridge in Karnataka, which was inaugurated at Malpe Beach, has been dismantled to avoid damage from the cyclone effect and heavy wind.

The District Administration has released a notification prohibiting water sports activities and the floating bridge will remain closed. However, there was a rumour that the floating bridge has collapsed at Malpe beach. The video of the same has gone viral on social media. Further, it can be recalled here that the leaseholder had stated that the water sports was launched on a trial basis and will be open till May 15. He also had added that after the monsoon, there are plans are to extend the length of the bridge by another 50 metres.

The bridge was inaugurated by Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat on Friday May 6. The Rs. 80 lakh bridge is made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) blocks that float on water and is 100 metres long and three metres wide.
