‘Demon’etisation claims its first victim in coastal Karnataka

Karkala: The demonetisation of currency notes by the central government claimed its first victim in the district as a nonagenarian collapsed in the queue and breathed his last at Ajekar on November 12.

Gopa Shetty, aged 95, resident of Kulambe Gundyadka in Ajekar is the deceased.

Gopa Shetty had visited corporation bank branch in Ajejar and stood in the queue to exchange notes. Within few minutes he collapsed and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. He was declared brought dead.

The deceased was the father of Sudhakar Shetty, Founder President of Jnansudha Institutions in Karkala and Padmagopal Educational Trust.

He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter and was well known as a social worker and hardworking agriculturist.

Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, former MLA Gopala Bhandary and ZP former vice president Dr Santhosh Kumar have condoled his death.
