Udupi: The District Sand Committee has called for a bandh on November 10 against the ban on sand extraction.
Addressing the media, MLA Raghupati Bhat said that the protest would continue until the district administration doesn’t permit sand extraction from CRZ and non-CRZ area.
He also said, “We are against the policies of the administration and the government. All the organisations including all the political parties must take a stand on this and support the district bandh on November 10.”
He made it clear that on November 8, the code of conduct will be lifted and the government could proceed with a resolution then.
Meanwhile, Raghupathy Bhat has also urged to solve the sand crisis and said that there was no need to write a letter to the Centre regarding the sand extraction issue.
He blamed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of supporting the Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis in her “initiatives against the sand availability.”
With reference to the protest, he said the construction shops will remain closed even after November 10.
MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said that in a meeting held the district in-charge ministers in Bengaluru, the CM had promised to resolve issue but none were kept. He ridiculed that the DC was controlling the CM and that the Centre was not responsible for all this.
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Traditional Sand Mining Boats Association President Sudhakar Amin, Zilla Panchayat Vice President Sheela K Shetty and others were present.
