Manipal: An educational programme for young diabetics, to enable them to lead a normal life, is being organised on December 9 at 9.00 AM at the Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. The educational and training Programme will include a general screening and physical examination of the participants. Medical experts will also interact with the children, adolescents and young people along with their parents.
The programme will commence with the inspiring testimonials of young people who have been living with diabetes and have controlled it successfully, to motivate other diabetic patients. The training programme will also have a Practical Yogic exercise demonstration to help them maintain their physical fitness and health.
To face challenges of being a young diabetic, there will be separate specialised sessions by the clinical psychologists for adolescents, adults and diabetic children along with their parents. These sessions will provide ways and suggestions for a positive outlook on life.
The programme includes interaction with specialists from the department of dietetics and nutrition to guide them about the aspects of a healthy diet and diet habits. A free dental check-up by the Manipal College of Dental School (MCODS) and free eye check-up by the ophthalmology department of KH, Manipal will also be there.
The programme will conclude with a quiz for both adults and children. There would be games to make the programme enjoyable, followed by a valedictory programme.
The participants registered for the “Young Diabetic Training Programme” would be surveyed to identify the challenges they face as young diabetics and the organisers plan to come out with support programmes that will ease their difficulties and make their lives hassle free.
