Kundapur: Visibly hurt by the move of the Congress party of expelling him from the party for six years, independent candidate for MLC polls Jayaprakash Hegde said that his loyalty and contributions to the party has been rewarded.
Addressing a news conference, Hegde broke silence and opted to answer each and every allegations that are being leveled against him by the Congress member.
He said that the Congress leaders have forgotten his contributions to the party as well as the regions and are resorting to making personal attacks, which is unacceptable.
“They say I am hungry for power but, I have always been known as someone who gave up power,” he said adding that despite him contesting as an independent candidate and despite the Congress expelling him from the party, his association with the Congress will continue.
He recalled that if he had not strove hard during his tenure as Minister, Udupi would have still remained as a taluk,” he said claiming that people have seen him work and he would continue to work for the people under any given situation.
Taking a dig at Congress candidate Prathapchandra Shetty, Hegde questioned as to why the party failed to initiate action against the ‘inactive’ members who failed to toil or canvas for the party.
He reiterated that his only contention was that the party should have fielded someone who has worked at the Gram Panchayat level and attended party programmes regularly.
“I refuse to accept someone who had always remained away from party works and the workers,” he said.
