Udupi: The mortal remains of Hazel Mathias, a native of Shirva in Udupi who ended her life in Saudi Arabia owing to sexual harassment from a Saudi national, was finally brought to her home in Shirva on Friday, September 28. The last rites were performed soon after the arrival of the dead body that was retained in Saudi Arabia for about 70 days due to legal procedures.

Hazel was employed with Al-Mikwa health centre in Saudi and she ended her life on July 19, leaving behind a suicide note revealing the mental trauma to which she was being subjected by a Saudi national who was also her colleague.

A large number of people thronged her residence to get one last glimpse of her.

After family and friends saw the mortal remains, it was taken to Shirva Arogya Matha Church where the last rites were performed after the mass.
