Hijab row: Section 144 imposed around high schools in Udupi from Feb 14

Udupi: In the wake of the hijab controversy, the Udupi District Administration has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the areas around all of the district’s high schools from Monday till February 19.

The prohibitory orders will take effect at 6.00 am on Monday February 14 and will be in effect till 6.00 pm on Saturday.

Following a request from the District Superintendent of Police to Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao to impose section 144 at 200 metres around all high schools, the prohibitory order was imposed.

According to the section, gatherings of five or more people around the school perimeter are prohibited. Any behaviour that disturbs a person’s faith or religion is prohibited.

All types of meetings, such as protests, rallies, and protests, are prohibited. It is illegal to carry lethal weapons such as sticks, clubs, knives, machetes, and other similar items. Provocative slogans, songs, and speeches are prohibited.
