Udupi: Shobha Karandlaje, BJP MP for Udupi-Chikmagalur district said, “We are hoping to win the upcoming BBMP poll. The Congress led State government has failed to reach to the people as their schemes proved to be a big flop”.
After inaugurating a workshop organized for newly elected gram panchayath presidents, vice-presidents and members on Tuesday, August 18, she said that, in democracy Gram Panchayth plays a very important role. It is the foundation for the political set up and to construct a strong building, strong foundation is must.

She added that the newly elected gram panchayath leaders have a responsibility to stand as a channel between the governance and public without bias.

She ridiculed the state government and said that like all other schemes, State government’s most expected Annabhagya scheme was also a failure. “People are not getting the promised quantity or quality of rice”, she said.

She also alleged that the State government has failed to respond to the grievances of farmers positively. Although the State has received additional Rs 10,000 crore from centre, the government has failed to utilize the funds for the needy farmers who are drought ridden.

“Most of the leaders and their families in the state involved themselves in mining business and Congress government protects them. Finally, an innocent person is made the scape goat, like police Chief Alok Kumar”, she said.

She called up on the members to take a survey to build toilets under ‘Swaccha Bharath Abhiyan’ in their concerned villages under the central government initiative. She added the district has already received Rs 10.5 crore for the same and another 1.80 crore will be released soon. There is a need for nearly 2500 toilets for each toilet Rs 12.000 to 15,000 will be given.

Henceforth, the funds released under 14th Finance Commission would directly be delivered to the gram panchayath to take up development works. Following this, even a small gram panchayath would at least receive Rs 25 lakh as against the earlier amount of Rs 8 lakh. The urban areas would receive funds up to Rs 23.68 crore under the programme, she added.

She also said that the state has money to purchase power from other states but our transformers and transmissions are not strong enough. The scarcity of power in State should be tackled only when State achieves self sustainability in power generation. She said the State is facing acute shortage of power.

While speaking to the media, Shobha Karandlaje said that the Congress can’t not accept the success of the Central led NDA Government. The people have started realizing and appreciating the foreign initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress has no other way to stop the development of the country initiated by the PM. So they have come up with the policy to disrupt the parliament by not taking healthy discussions.

“Amendments on new land ordinance bill and GST Bill has been postponed because of the incapability of the opposition. A special session would be called at the month end to present GST Bill for approval. The amendments for new land ordinance bill are expected to be presented in winter session of the parliament”, she added.
