Udupi: Ashrayadatha Auto union held a unique demonstration by conducting minor road repair works at NH 66 from Karavali Junction to Adi Udupi here on Thursday.
The 200m road which is in a bad state and filled with potholes was repaired by union members – Bus drivers, conductors and public who joined them. Minor repair works were done by the members to mark the demonstration against people’s representatives and National highway authority of India.
Two weeks ago the auto union held a protest by blocking the road which is in a bad state and had given the authorities a 15-day deadline. But municipal authority, or district administration, NHAI or the government did not take any action in this regard. When nobody turned up the Union members themselves conducted minor repair works.
City council had provided a JCB for the protest and council president Yuvraj himself helped the union at the unique protest.
Ashrayadatha president Ramesh Shetty said, “We are not protesting against any government inspite of the fact that Shobha Karandlaje has spoken against our protest. We are protesting for the sake of public. If representatives, officials and the goverment cannot do any repair works and if they publicly declare that they are incapable of it, then we will beg and collect money and repair the pathetic road”.
