Udupi: To get the Indian Basketball team ready for the upcoming 28th FIBA Asia cup championship which will be held at China from September 23 to October 3, Nitte has come up with sophisticated indoor basketball stadium.With 16 members, the Indian basket ball team is ready to face the most awaited championship and hopes to reach the quarter finals. The most efficient champions are confident of facing the strong contenders like China, Philippines, Korea and Iran.
The players have been given training and are made to practice for hours every day. Last year, the team reached to the final 11. As many as 16 countries are taking part in the FIBA Asia cup this year.
Vishesh Briguvamshi said the team is well set to meet with their international opponents. He said that, in India basket ball is not considered as a professional league.
Sebastian K, the coach of the team, who is also associated with the Kerala State Sports Council, said the selection committee would come to Nitte on September 5-6 to select the team.
He said the team has certain drawbacks with regards to defense. The team members are working on it and the second phase training would focus on defense drills.
The team would leave Delhi on 22 to face their opponent at China September 23.
