Udupi: State Women and Child Welfare Department and Udupi District In-charge Minister Jayamala became a victim of humiliation in the District Congress Office from her own party workers and members here on Tuesday, October 2.
On account of the 150th anniversary of Gandhi Jayanthi, Jayamala had visited the district to partake in the programme. When she was about to leave the office, the Congress workers picketed her. The Youth Congress workers expressed their anger.
The reason for rage was the lathi charge during Bharat Bandh that was observed on September 10.
When Jayamala gave an explanation for the action by the police, the Congress workers said, “We had faced the lathi charge and were badly beaten by the police.”
“The SP also was involved in the lathi charge, where he too had ferociously beaten up the party workers. Instead of taking action and questioning him you have attended the Ganesh Chathurthi pooja and had food at his place”, they added.
The party workers then requested Jayamala to transfer the SP and take necessary action in the incident.
A long list of accusation was put forth by the party workers. They said, “When the lathi charge was initiated and the party workers were assaulted, there was no response from you as a minister. You didn’t have the courtesy of visiting the hospital and inquire about the condition of the party workers.”
The party workers ordered for a probe into the matter and requested for justice. She cautioned the workers saying, “Because media is covering this do not create a nuisance”. After this statement, she immediately left the venue.
She reacted in anger after getting into the car.
