Udupi: Going by his words, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde has decided to contest for the upcoming MLC polls as an independent candidate.
Hegde, a Congress member has decided to plunge into fray as an independent candidate after his party issued ticket to Pratapchandra Shetty, the sitting MLC.
Hegde will be filing his nominations on December 7.
Another Congressman Bhujanga Shetty too has declared to contest the MLC polls as an independent candidate after being irked by the attitude of the Congress party.
It is said that despite Pratapchandra deciding that he would not contest the MLC polls, senior Congress leaders like Oscar Fernandes and others had pressurised him to contest the polls, to which he yielded.
The MLC elections will be held on December 27. The last date to file the nomination is December 9.
