Udupi : Rahul Bharadwaj of Karnataka has won the All India Sub-Junior Badminton Championship 2014 in the under 15 category by defeating Lakshya Sen of Uttaranchal 21-19, 23-21 in the match held at Ajjarkad Indoor Stadium here on Sunday July 27.
In the under 15 girls’ category, Poorva Barve of Maharashtra defeated Ria Arolkar of her own state. In the boys doubles Krishna Prasad and Satwik Sairaj pair from Andhra Pradesh defeated Pragyan Jyothi and Lakshya Sen of Assam, while in Girls’ doubles Ashwin Bhat and Mithula of Karnataka registered a win over their Maharashtra rivals Simran Singh and Ritika.
In the boys under 13 singles event Maisnam Meraba of Manipur defeated Pavan Krishna of Andhra Pradesh while in girls’ singles of this category Vaishnavi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh won against Simran Singh of Maharashtra. In Boys doubles Sirkar Madina of Andhra Pradesh and Maisnam Meraba of Manipur pair defeated Ritin and Pavan Krishna of Andhra Pradesh to bag the title. In girls’ doubles Richa Muktibodh of Karnataka and Simran Singh of Maharashtra defeated Vaishnavi Reddy and Gayatri Gopichand of Andhra Pradesh.
Rajya Sabha Member and former union Minister Oscar Fernandes distributed prizes to the winners. State Minister for Sports Abhayachandra Jain, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake DC Muddu Mohan, former national badminton Champion Lakshmi Gopichand, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University Dr HS Ballal, former MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Prakash Kodavoor and others were present.
