Kollur counter employee nabbed for robbing temple jewellery

Kollur: An employee of famous Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, Kollur has been nabbed by the police for allegedly stealing temple ornaments estimated to cost over Rs 20 lac.

Shivaram Madiwal, a counter staff is facing serious charges of theft in temple.

Surprisingly, despite being just a counter staff he was handling cash and jewellery donated to the temple by the devotees.

It is said that in February 2016, Madiwal took leave and before going on leave he was directed by the temple Executive officer to hand over the keys, which he did not oblige to. He instead went missing with the keys and cash.

When he was asked to handover the cash and keys, Madiwala only sent Rs 4 lac. all efforts of the temple to trace him failed.

However, on Monday evening the cops nabbed him from his residence.

Police have obtained deposit and loan details of Madiwala from nearby banks.

It is suspected that he had pledged ornaments in the past. This is the first scam concerning cash and ornaments in the famous temple. Police are yet to open the safe locker where the ornaments were kept before Madiwala left the place.
