Karkala: A case has been registered at Karkala police station following verbal spat between a SI and a lawyer at Karkala JFMC Court premises here on Saturday.
Lawyer Maniraj Shetty accused SI Rafiq of abusing and threatening him when the prior had tried to speak to an accused on December 17. Addressing a press meet at Karkala Bar Association Shetty said that SI Rafiq was avenging the act of the lawyer who brought to light the extortion cases of the SI few days ago.
Background
Rowdy sheeter William D’ Souza was brutally attacked by a gang on August 1, 2016 near Doopadakatte. D’ Souza had attempted to murder Harish Poojary in 2014 in Doopadakatte. Hence Harish Poojary and his aides wanted to settle scores with D’Souza. However, in the attack D’Souza was critically injured.
He had surrendered before court on December 14 and was jailed. Maniraj Shetty alleged that William was beaten up by the police at the police station. On December 16 a petition was filed for his police custody. Hence D’Souza was again produced before the court on December 17. That was when lawyer had tried to speak to accused and was stopped by SI Rafiq.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that SI Rafiq has registered a counter complaint against the lawyer for obstructing him from delivering his duty.
