Udupi: A major mishap was averted as a fire on a lorry carrying gas cylinders at the Hejamady Toll Plaza was noticed at the right time in the evening of Thursday May 12 and put out immediately.
The lorry was carrying LPG gas-filled cylinders from Mangaluru to Udupi. The fire erupted near the back of the seat at Hejamady Toll Plaza when driver had gone for refreshments. Fortunately, the toll plaza staff noticed the fire, and poured water using buckets.
Soon, fire brigade too was called to the spiot. Padubidri Police Sub-Inspector Purushottam too visited. The source of the fire has been identified as an electrical short circuit.
