Malpe becomes India’s first Wi-Fi enabled beach!

Udupi: Union Government’s Digital Driver initiative has reached the coastal belt of Karnataka and with MLA Pramod Madhwaraj launching the 24×7 Wi-Fi connectivity at Malpe beach, the renowned tourist destination of Udupi became the first beach in India to get free Wi-Fi connectivity.
Free WiFi for Beach-goers at Malpe from Jan 15-1The service sponsored by Udupi district administration and Malpe Beach Development Authority at present will be available for half an hour.

The highlight of this service is that the customer of any service provider can access this high speed data, absolutely free of cost for the stipulated time.

Customers have to just turn on the Wi-Fi and connect to QFI-BSNL-BU. A web browser with free registration form will appear, which the customer has to submit after filling and an OTP (one time password) will be sent to the customer. Once the OTP is entered in the registration page, the customer can browse the net for half an hour.

Launching the service on Sunday, Jan 24, Madhwaraj said that the beach committee has been striving to provide better quality services to the visitors.

He said that with six lifeguards in place, a beach watch tower built recently and four workers keeping the prime locations of the beach clean, the Malpe beach is looking ready like never before to welcome visitors.

He lauded the Beach Development Committee’s efforts and said that so far a total of Rs 80 lac has been spent on beach development.

The Committee, headed by DC R Vishal has been emphasising a lot on cleanliness, Madhwaraj said adding that it has appointed three people to clean St Mary’s Island and has also purchased a cleaning machine at a cost of Rs 70 lac.

Udupi CMC Commissioner Manjunathaiah, Dial Mantra Officer Sudesh Shetty among others were present.
