Manipal: For the first time in the recent migrant bird sighting history, the Manipal Birders club has reported the sighting of white stork.
Sharing details of the sighting with News Karnataka, Mohit Shenoy, member of the club said there is no official record of the white stork being sighted on the Karnataka coast so far. “There were 18 birds in the flock that our member Tejaswi Acharya sighted near the green fields adjacent to the dump yard on October 2. They are generally found in such surroundings even in their natural habitat in Mysuru and Bengaluru. They are migratory birds, but they are rarely known for flocking towards the coast,” he said.
The MBC has already documented two other rare sightings including Hume’s whitethroat and Eurasian wryneck and spotted flycatcher. One of the avid birders Ramit Singhal from Manipal had even published a book on birds of Manipal. Manipal is also known as one of the green campusus of the world.
