Kundapur: A youth has been nabbed by the police for attempting to murder three of his relatives and robbing valuables from them at Korgi Hosmath on January 5.
Ranjith Shetty (27) is the person accused.
It is said that Shetty has been mentally disturbed over the last several years and following his precarious behaviour his family abandoned him.
On Tuesday, January 5, it is said that Shetty knocked at the door of his neighbour and relative Kutti Shetty pleading for help as he claimed he was suffering from acute stomach ache.
The family of Kutti Shetty, fighting back apprehensions, opened the door on humanitarian grounds only to be brutally attacked by the youth with knife.
The mentally disturbed man also asked Kutti Shetty and family to sign some papers stating that he was not responsible for the theft and the attack.
After unleashing havoc, he fled the spot, locking Kutti Shetty and family inside the house.
The neighbours who saw the youth flee, informed Thekkatte friends Circle, who came in an ambulance and rushed the injured family-Kutti Shetty, his wife Koragamma and daughter Chandravathi to the hospital.
However, the police arrested Ranjith Shetty from Koteshwar while he was trying to sell the robbed gold.
As per locals, Shetty had been notorious in the locality after he attacked and robbed his own 90-year-old grandmother and sister.
A police case stands registered at Kundapur Police station.
