Udupi: On Friday November 5, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Social Welfare Minister, performed ‘gau pooja’ as part of the Diwali Festival at a Dalit woman’s gaushala (cow shelter) in Udupi.
Poojary, along with MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat paid a visit to Kamalamma’s gaushala, which was built on three cents of land in Ambedkar Colony in Doddamagudde, Udupi. Kamalamma has been caring for 60 cows at her shelter.
According to the sources, under the supervision of priest Padmanabha Acharya, the Minister washed the legs of a cow, decorated her with turmeric powder, vermilion, garland, and offered food. Food was distributed to the other cows in the shelter. He also gave Kamalamma and her son clothes and candy, as well as a bag of cow feed from the department.
