Udupi: Close on the heels of former MP Jayaprakash Hegde expressing his disappointment over ignoring him in the race for the upcoming MLC polls, another Congressman Bhujanga Shetty has announced that he will be contesting the polls as an independent candidate as according to him, the Congress party let him down.

Addressing a press meet on Friday December 4, the former Zilla Panchayat president and Member of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee said that despite being a party loyal for the past 38 years and rendering selfless service, the party preferred Pratapchandra Shetty over him and other aspirants.

“I have given my heart and soul to the party. I was confident that the party would consider my work and give me a ticket. However, it has in all probability zeroed in on Pratapchandra Shetty, despite him not showing a keen interest. This has really been disappointing.”

Speaking further he said that he was not only against the Congress party but was against the entire political system. He said that there was no politician to listen to the cries of the poor and everyone was bothered about themselves and their loved ones.

Earlier in the day, another Congressman Jayaprakash Hegde had declared that he would contest as an independent candidate if the party would not consider him in the fray adding that he was deeply upset on Congress veteran Oscar Fernandes calling him a fresher.

It may be noted that MLC ticket for Pratapchandra Shetty has not been officially announced yet.
